Why Cruelty-Free Matters to PJ’s Soaps and Bombs
Growing up, Patrick and I always had pets. Everything from Patrick’s rats, Tish and Tosh to my many cats, dogs, and even horses. Our love of animals runs even deeper through our family history, with both of our parents sharing that same love—and one of my great-grandparents was a horse doctor. Yes, you read that correctly… a horse doctor in the state of Iowa!
So, forward to today. We live in a world where animals can still be used in testing everyday products from the food we eat and the laundry products we use to the beauty and personal-care products we put on our skin.
At PJ’s Soaps and Bombs, we’ve made a choice about where we stand. We stand with the animals. And we intend to stay there for as long as PJ’s exists.
For us, being cruelty-free isn’t simply a label. It’s about feeling good about the products we create, use, and share with our customers. From the beginning, our handcrafted bath and body products, including our artisan soaps, body lotions, sugar scrubs, bath soaks, bath crumble, and other skin-care products—have been cruelty-free and made without parabens, phthalates, and other ingredients we choose to leave out of our formulations.
Now, we’re proud to take that commitment one step further.
PJ’s Soaps and Bombs is officially part of the Leaping Bunny Family.
What does that mean?
It means our commitment to cruelty-free products extends beyond what happens in our own workshop. The suppliers we purchase from—and the companies within their supply chains—are committed to not testing their products or ingredients on animals.
For us, this certification is more than a logo. It represents something we’ve believed in from the very beginning: animals should never have to suffer for the products we use every day.
Per the Leaping Bunny Website:
“The Leaping Bunny Difference”
“The Leaping Bunny Program provides the best assurance that a product is free of animal testing. In order to become Leaping Bunny certified, brands must comply with requirements in place that go beyond current laws. Specifically, companies must:
- Adhere to a fixed cut-off date, an unalterable date after which neither the brand nor any of its suppliers and/or manufacturers may conduct, commission or be party to animal tests.
- Set up a Supplier Monitoring System to ensure all their suppliers and manufacturers comply with Leaping Bunny criteria.
- Be open to independent audits to ensure their Supplier Monitoring System adheres to the Leaping Bunny Standard.
- Renew their commitment to the Leaping Bunny Program annually.”
A Commitment We’re Proud to Keep
At the end of the day, this is about more than soaps, lotions, scrubs, or bath soaks. It’s about making choices that align with what we believe in.
Our love of animals has been part of our lives for as long as we can remember, so choosing to create cruelty-free products was never a difficult decision. Becoming part of the Leaping Bunny Family simply gives us another way to put that belief into action—and to hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard.
We’re proud to be a small, family-owned business that makes handcrafted bath and body products with purpose, passion, and a whole lot of love.
Because doing something good should feel good, too.
Thank you for supporting our little business and for being part of the PJ’s Soaps and Bombs family. Together, we can make thoughtful choices for ourselves, our skin, and the animals we love.
